Be cared for, Mama.
As an obstetric & pelvic floor physical therapist who has worked in both the hospital with mama's 24-48 post-delivery and outpatient settings with pregnancy and postpartum goals to function optimally and feel good, I would love to support you in your journey.
Nurturing Mama services are made to be easily accessible for all mamas by delivering sessions conveniently to the comfort of your own home. By design, NM appointments are easy for mamas who cannot find a babysitter (though sessions are a bit more scattered), new mamas who do not want to get their newborn out and about, mamas who want to learn how to do activities in their own environment and those who desire accountability and personalized support.

The Fourth
Trimester
The fourth trimester is a sacred time for bonding and healing. So often, us 21st century mamas think and are told to get up and get going as soon as possible-- pack up your newborn and wear your cute pre-pregnancy outfits, run all the errands, make dinner every night, clean the house, and get back to work. We know we are strong and often mostly independent. However, returning to work too soon or performing household duties after having a baby can lead to complications or make physical discomfort worse. We need time to recover. We really should have villages that cater to our mamas to promote healing. According to the American College of Gynecology, the fourth trimester—the 12 weeks after giving birth—is critical for a mother's health and can set the stage for her long-term health and well-being. They also recognize that the fourth trimester can be a time when mothers have the least interaction with their health care team, but need it the most. Mothers should be seen by a maternal care provider in the first 3 weeks following delivery, but how often is that truly happening. Likely your OB/Midwife is extremely overbooked already and most of the time they can only get you in somewhere between 6-12 weeks post-delivery. In-home PT can bridge that gap for you, and provide the care and education you deserve in your own home without having to get out and figure out childcare or take your newborn out of the home. We love providing these services in your home so that we can see your home set-up, teach you how to get in/out of your bed, on/off your couch, give you ideas on body mechanics for your feeding/nursing set-up, carrying baby—in a carrier/carseat/etc… while giving you grace and support to nurture your new little one. We will also check any wounds you have and take your vital signs. Checking your vital signs after movement, not just resting in a hospital bed, is completely different and just as important-that’s what we do when we go home. If you have a history of preeclampsia, postpartum hemorrhage, any cardiac issues, gestational or chronic hypertension, etc… it will be imperative to have these monitored, and we can make you aware and help guide you if there is a concern.
