Frequently Asked Questions

What health insurances do you accept?

Nurturing Mama is a cash-based, concierge in-home physical therapy and massage therapy business. We are an out-of-network provider and do not contract with any insurance company. This allows you to have control in choosing your own health treatments without being limited by insurance.

If you have Medicare as your health insurance, we are currently unable to see you for physical therapy services that Medicare normally covers.

Why choose cash-based physical therapy?

Cash-based physical therapy provides more personalized care, cost transparency, direct access to care and often quicker recovery times by removing insurance restrictions.

  • You receive one-on-one care for an hour with a highly qualified physical therapist (OB/pelvic floor PT, perinatal health specialist, pregnancy and postpartum corrective exercise specialist, certified lymphedema therapist, dry needling certified, certified athletic trainer, licensed massage therapist).

  • Nurturing Mama provides upfront prices with no surprises, unlike insurance-based physical therapy.

  • It is cost-effective due to personalized care and quicker recovery times.

    • For example, private pay patients often complete one highly personalized session per week (in the convenience of their own home and no need for childcare), whereas insurance-based patients may be scheduled for 2-3 sessions per week due to shorter, less intensive visits with oftentimes overlapping of other patients (plus time off work/travel time/figuring out childcare 2-3 times/week). Fewer, longer sessions in private pay therapy can lead to faster recovery and fewer overall visits, ultimately saving money and time.

  • Insurance most of the time has limitations on the number of physical therapy visits covered by the plan, whereas you and your therapist get to decide how many visits you need as you recover with cash-based PT.

  • It allows you quicker access to services and greater flexibility in your treatment with the ability to choose your own specialist provider.

  • By choosing cash-based PT, you will have taken a huge step toward empowering yourself, because you will have made the commitment to invest in your health.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No, in Indiana you have direct access to physical therapy for up to 42 days (consecutively) without a doctor's order. However, due to the nature of working with pregnant women and people with cancer, it is ideal to have an order/clearance by your doctor to receive services. Nurturing Mama may ask you to get this prior to starting in certain instances. Also, if you plan on seeking reimbursement from insurance (with a Superbill I can provide you), your insurance provider may require a physician’s referral.

What can a PT consult address?

Nurturing Mama is specialized in obstetric, pelvic health, and cancer care. Although, we can see almost any orthopedic diagnosis as well. Just ask!

We are able to provide you with a superbill (with all of the information required) following your appointment that you can submit for reimbursement to your commercial insurance.

How are payments made?

Your payment card (credit/debit or HSA/FSA) is collected upfront online when Nurturing Mama sends your intake and consent forms after booking your service via email or phone. In case you have to make a last minute cancel or no-show to your appointment you will be charged half of your appointment cost: this is to account for the time reserved for you in our schedule, preparation it takes to be ready to serve you, and any drive time needed to meet you.

What will my first treatment be like?

In the comfort of your own home, you will be one-on-one with a specialized physical/massage therapist.  We will do a compassionate review of your medical history, have a conversation about your goals for physical/massage therapy, answer any questions you have, and develop a treatment plan that is evidence-based, holistic, and will address your goals.   (For physical therapy only: if indicated and with your consent, a pelvic floor examination may also be completed.)
